Gazart

The term Gazat derives from a popular practice of pooling resources to achieve a mutual goal. The term can be applied to art to speak more broadly of a DIY approach to art and exhibition making that encourages collaboration, collectivising and fostering networks. The project has brought together practitioners from a wide range of disciplines to explore these conceptual aspects.

Gazat is a loxion term which refers to a communal process whereby everyone contributes whatever they can to achieve a common goal. The term is most often used by youth as a call for everyone to gather all their spare change to collectively buy spaaikos to be shared amongst the group. In an art context the term alludes to a DIY ethos which promotes independence and self-sufficiency on the part of artists.

Gazart is not in opposition to mainstream gallery practice but rather a template from which practitioners might find space to produce, exhibit and dialogue. The manifesto is available to anyone who would like to take the format forward.

There have been two iterations of Gazart.
